An OCG team, including MD Neil Coughlan, will be taking part in the Dragon Ride L’Etape Wales by le Tour de France on Saturday, 4 June 2016. They will be raising money for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity, which does great work to help people who have been affected by cancer.
The race is on for OCG
Now in its thirteenth year, the Dragon Ride is one of the UK’s most popular sportives. With different races available to suit cyclists of varying abilities, there is something for anyone who is looking for a challenge. The routes will reach gradients of 19% and give cyclists spectacular views of landscapes and terrain as they pass through the stunning Brecon Beacons and Medio Fondo.
OCG’s team of keen cyclists will be taking part in the Medio Fondo race, climbing Bwlch (ascent of 527m) and Rhigos (ascent of 485m) to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
A particular lover of the outdoors, Neil’s enthusiasm for cycling has grown over the last six years. Having taken part in various cycle races for charity in the past, he is particularly looking forward to this one.
“I’ve taken part in quite a few races over the years,” he recalls. “But I’ve never taken part in one that provides such incredible landscapes. It’s going to be a challenge, but I’m looking forward to it and I’m proud to be raising money for such a great charity.”
Raising money for Macmillan
Team OCG is aiming to raise £500 through Just Giving – and the cycling enthusiasts are already well on their way to reaching their target. The Macmillan charity helps to improve the lives of those affected by cancer, providing support and inspiration. The charity is close to many people’s hearts, with 50% of people living today expected to be diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime.
Christian Prudhomme, General Director of le Tour de France, enthuses: “Following the extraordinary reception Le Tour de France riders enjoyed in the United Kingdom over the last few years, it is a true honour to bring Le Tour de France’s spirit to Wales. This spirit of course remains in the passion for cycling and Le Tour de France itself, but it is also linked to an ideal sportive course and Wales’ incredible nature and landscapes. The Dragon Ride L’Etape Wales by Le Tour de France has a route reminiscent of one of Le Tour de France’s most magnificent stages.”
Good luck Team OCG!
