Conwy Cannons: Season in Review

The curtain has come down on a tough first season for Conwy Cannons basketball team, sponsored by Oxford Computer Group.

Competing in the North Wales Basketball Association U16 league, the team has enjoyed great success while finding their feet against more established competition.

A CLOSE FINISH

In recent weeks, the Cannons narrowly lost out to Caernarfon Celts in an awesome five-overtime (five minutes, sudden death) session match. The final league match took place last week against Mold Magic.

The Cannons went down to a physical Mold team, losing 34 – 27. This gave them a final league position of fourth, with three wins in eight matches. Among the season highlights was a huge a victory against eventual league champions Caernarfon Celts.

Stars of the season

We are proud to announce that the Cannons’ Kieran Roberts finished the season as the league’s top scorer with 83 points, 7 points ahead of the field. Kieran McCann finished in fourth position with 60 points, while Lee Bradley scored the most three-point shots of any player in the whole league. Kieran McCann was also runner up as the league’s MVP (Most Valuable Player).

Out of the ten players who scored three point baskets during the season, three were from Conwy Cannons. This demonstrates the quality of the team and highlights the potential for future seasons.

The season finale is the Cup Final Tournament. Following a few Cannons injuries at the end of a hard-fought season, the team only managed one win in four games.

It all begins again in October, as the team enters the U18 league.
